Old Stone Church West Boylston

The 40th Worcester Series Ornament has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. The Old Stone Church in West Boylston was built in 1891 to replace the Baptist Church after a fire. A mere 10 years later, this church was to be abandoned for the construction of the Wachusett Reservoir.

Thanks to the West Boylston Historical Society, the Historical Commission and the Beaman Oak Garden Club, The Commonwealth of Massachusetts was persuaded to let it remain standing and not be destroyed for the reservoir. Its distinctive stone construction was a key point in this decision.

Upon completion of the Wachusett Reservoir in 1905, the Old Stone Church became a centerpiece for the town and the new reservoir. Through the years, visitors have admired its beauty with the surrounding landscape; many choosing the location for wedding photographs and other special occasions.

On September 25, 1983, the 175th anniversary of the Incorporation of West Boylston, the Old Stone Church was rededicated.
